OPEN CALLS FOR THEATRE ARTISTS and FILMMAKERS: SUMMER 2020

FILMMAKERS

Rorschach will employ five filmmakers to work on Klecksography 2020 from July 31 through August 9, 2020. Klecksography is a week long project during which we create, stage and perform six new short plays and 5 short films.

One of the goals of this project is to connect actors, directors, filmmakers & playwrights with artists and producers they may not yet know and there will be opportunities to be seen and network with other theatre companies besides Rorschach Theatre.Participating companies include Round House Theatre, Theater J, Mosaic Theater, Arena Stage, Imagination Stage, Longacre Lea, We Happy Few, Pointless Theatre, Spooky Action Theatre, BBP Productions, Graphic Audio, TBD Immersive, 4615 Theatre, The Welders, Rep Stage, 1st Stage, and Adventure Theatre.

All filmmakers in Klecksography will be compensated with a $100 honorarium. Filmmakers will cast, script, and direct their own projects. Rorschach can recommend collaborating artists by request.

ACTORS

This year Rorschach Theatre’s  open call auditions for DC-Area actors will be by video submission only. Submissions are due by Monday, June 29 @ 11:59pm.

By clicking on the link above you can share your resume/headshot as well as a link to your video. Actors should prepare a 60 second contemporary monologue + a brief (30 second) answer to a question asked in the form.

All actors who audition will be considered for Rorschach’s 2020-21 season as well as Klecksography 2020These auditions will be shared with other theatre companies, including Theater J, Mosaic Theater, Arena Stage, Imagination Stage, Longacre Lea, We Happy Few, Pointless Theatre, Spooky Action Theatre, BBP Productions, Graphic Audio, TBD Immersive, 4615 Theatre, The Welders, Rep Stage, 1st Stage, and Adventure Theatre. 


DIRECTORS

Klecksography is a week long project during which we create, stage and perform six new short plays. This year’s performances will be digital. One of the goals of this project is to connect actors, directors & playwrights with artists and producers they may not yet know and there will be opportunities to be seen and network with other theatre companies in addition to Rorschach Theatre.

Rorschach will commission six local (DC-area) playwrights to write for Klecksography 2020 from Friday, July 31 through Sunday, August 9. Klecksography is a week long project during which we create, stage and perform six new short plays. This year’s performances will be digital. One of the goals of this project is to connect actors, directors & playwrights with artists and producers they may not yet know and there will be opportunities to be seen and network with other theatre companies in addition to Rorschach Theatre.

ABOUT KLECKSOGRAPHY 2020

Klecksography is a week long project during which we create, stage and perform six new short plays. One of the goals of this project is to connect actors, directors & playwrights with artists and producers they may not yet know and there will be opportunities to be seen and network with other theatre companies besides Rorschach Theatre. KEY DATES: Klex Kick Off: Friday, July 31 6pm-10pm, Rehearsals: Sunday, August 2 thru Friday, August 7, Performance August 9.

Compensation: all positions are paid a small stipend.

OPEN CALL AUDITIONS FAQ

Q: Can I audition if I don’t want to be considered for Klecksography?
A: Of course! This open call audition is for our 2020/21 Season as well as for Klecksography. Other theatres will also be auditing these auditions. 

Q: Does Rorschach use AEA Actors?
A: We occasionally use guest artist contracts, but the majority of roles at the company are non-AEA.  AEA roles are cast by invitation only.

Q: Does Rorschach employ out-of-town artists?
A: At this time, Rorschach is only considering local hires.

Q: Will you accept video auditions?
A: This year we are ONLY accepting video auditions!

Q: When will I find out if I’m invited to participate in Klecksography?
A: Klecksography invitations will be sent no later than July 15

Q: Has Rorschach’s 20-21 Season been announced?
A: Nope.  We’ll announce it soon, but we anticipate having a number of roles available for a wide range of ages, gender-identification and ethnicities.

Q: What do I do if I need to change or cancel my audition time once I’m scheduled?

Q: I am a producer, director or casting director and I’d like to audit the Open Call auditions.  What do I do?
