DC-AREA PLAYWRIGHTS, DIRECTORS, AND ACTORS!
Rorschach is holding an open call for DC-Area emerging Directors, Playwrights, and Actors for the 2025 Klecksography project, taking place August 9 – 17, 2025. (Directors and Playwrights will be with the project until Aug 16, Actors will remain with the project for additional shows on August 17).
KLECKSOGRAPHY projects commission more than 30 artists to create and stage six new short plays inspired by a single piece of visual art. The project takes place over 10 days and focuses on providing creative challenges, visibility, and networking opportunities to emerging artists.
The 2025 Klecksography project will take place at the historic Corcoran Flagg Building in partnership with George Washington University and will be catalyzed by a piece of art from their Brady Art Gallery – a piece which is in conversation with the themes of Rorschach’s Vox Populi project.
Rorschach seeks to minimize typical barriers to access by offering opportunities for actors, directors, and playwrights through an open call. Applicants to the program will also be kept on file for future Rorschach opportunities and (with the permission of the artists) will be shared with leadership of other theatres.
“Klecksography” was a game played by Hermann Rorschach as a child that involved making shapes out of ink on a blank page. Inspired by this game he would go on to develop his famous psychological test, the Rorschach Inkblot Test.
DIRECTORS
Rorschach will choose six DC-Area directors to work on Klecksography 2025. Directors will be compensated with a $100 honorarium. Rorschach will cast the projects and connect directors with their script/playwright.

PLAYWRIGHTS
Rorschach will choose six DC-Area playwrights to write short plays for Klecksography 2025. Playwrights will be compensated with a $100 honorarium. Rorschach will cast the projects and connect playwrights with their director and cast.

ACTORS
Actors for our 2025 Klecksography will be chosen from our virtual open call auditions that have been live for a couple months. Actors will be be compensated with a $150 honorarium. If you have already submitted to our open call and wish to be considered for Klecksography, please send an email to casting@rorschachtheatre.com with “klecksography” in the subject line and say you wish to be considered.
