In the same way that everyone sees something different in an inkblot, people want different things from their theatre-going experiences. If you’re someone who likes to have a lot of background on what the experience will be like before you come to the theatre, read on. This page focuses on CONTENT INFORMATION.
There may be some low-key spoilers ahead.

HOW LONG IS IT?About two and a half hours (including one 15 minute intermission)
On the verge of creating her masterpiece Frankenstein, Mary Shelley joins friends and lovers in an occult ritual. Seeking both inspiration and immortality, they glimpse the future—and discover The Shelleys, a 2025 rock band from Ohio chasing the same desires. What follows is an unforgettable rock séance written and composed by Shawn Northrip (TITUS X, LUNCH) and directed by Jenny McConnell Frederick (NEVERWHERE, ANGEL NUMBER NINE). Commissioned by Rorschach in 2023, SO LATE INTO THE NIGHT immerses audiences in the laudanum-soaked, free-love world of the Romantics on their darkly funny, deeply human quest for forever.
Yes.
As with a lot of the work Rorschach chooses, SO LATE INTO THE NIGHT explores a range of human experiences. The show is a dark comedy horror rock musical. There are scary and shocking moments that are balanced with humor. Though it goes to some pretty wild and even supernatural places, the play is grounded in an emotional reality that is familiar and accessible.
“Appropriate” is a relative word, but here are a few things to know when deciding who to bring to the theatre with you:
We recommend our audiences be 16+ for this one, but we don’t require it. If you’ve reviewed the info below and are comfortable bringing your younger child, they are welcome. Here’s what you can expect:
TECHNICAL ELEMENTS:
The play includes bright and flashing lights and loud sounds.
SUBJECT MATTER:
Potentially sensitive topics touched on in SO LATE INTO THE NIGHT include suicide, drowning, pregnancy and child loss.
LANGUAGE:
There is a fair amount of swearing – most of the four letter words that you would expect in realistic adult language.
SEXUAL CONTENT:
There is kissing but no sexual activity is depicted. There are some risque jokes and references to free-love or the 19th century version of polyamory.
VIOLENCE & GORE:
Just the usual–a vampire bite, some leeches and a little bleeding from the mouth here and there.
INTERACTIVITY:
SO LATE INTO THE NIGHT takes place in a large unfinished retail space that has been transformed into an unconventional performance venue. Seating takes place around a large (32’x12′) dining room table and in a couple rows behind it. Though the action will be very close to the audience, there is no obligation to participate – there are a few small moments of very light interactivity, but nothing that should be stressful to even our most introverted guests.
