Rorschach Theatre is holding an open call for DC-Area Directors, Playwrights, and Actors for the 2024 Klecksography project, taking place February 3 – 10, 2024.
KLECKSOGRAPHY projects commission more than 30 artists to create and stage six new short plays inspired by a single piece of visual art. The project takes place over 10 days and focuses on providing creative challenges, visibility, and networking opportunities to emerging artists.
The 2024 Klecksography project will take place at the historic Corcoran Flagg Building in partnership with George Washington University and will be catalyzed by a piece of art from their Brady Art Gallery.
Rorschach seeks to minimize typical barriers to access by offering opportunities for actors, directors, and playwrights through an open call. Applicants to the program will also be kept on file for future Rorschach opportunities and (with the permission of the artists) will be shared with leadership of other theatres.
“Klecksography” was a game played by Hermann Rorschach as a child that involved making shapes out of ink on a blank page. Inspired by this game he would go on to develop his famous psychological test, the Rorschach Inkblot Test.
Rorschach will choose six DC-Area directors to work on Klecksography 2024. All participants in Klecksography will be compensated with a $100 honorarium. Rorschach will cast the projects and connect directors with their script/playwright.
In addition to information about you, you’ll be asked some questions about your artistic vision and aesthetic sensibilities.
